I have always loved patterns, but it’s taken me a long time to figure out how to make them. There’s a lot more to creating a pattern than just hitting copy and paste! If you can’t quite figure out how to turn your illustrations into the perfect repeat pattern Nancy Straughan and I have just the class for you. This workshop will be dealing with the technical side of repeat patterns, taking you through the whole process from initial mood boards and sketches to developing a pattern collection ready to print.
We will be walking you through some of our commercial projects, from the very beginning to end, showing you the initial sketches and original artwork. We will also be able to advise on the best places to get your patterns printed and how to put together a product range. We will also be doing a hands-on repeat pattern exercise, taking pattern design off the computer and using paper, pencil and a pair of scissors. By the end of the class you should be 100% confident to turn your own illustrations, designs, paintings or even typography into stunning repeat patterns. There will be a little goodie bag for each student, including a notebook and pencil for all the notes you’ll be taking. The class will be held in West Elm, which is full of gorgeous pattern and design inspiration! If that sounds good to you, you can buy your ticket here. The class takes place on Sunday March 20 2016 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM.A few of the hand painted patterns I have created for clients. Some of Nancy’s pattern design.
