This year the AOI Illustration Awards have been reformatted and rebranded, the winners now being displayed in a exhibition not a book, and for the first time the competition was open to international illustrators. All of this made the competition much tougher and added to the prestige of being a category winner. One of the category winners, and my date for the night, was Lesley Barnes, who won the advertising category with her posters for the V&A Museum of Childhood. I’ve always thought these posters are wonderful, so it’s great to see them getting the recognition they deserve.
The overall winner of the night was Jonathon Burton, with his illustrated playing cards for Faber and Faber.

All in all an outstanding show, displaying some of the very best in illustration talent. It’s on at Somerset House until the 27th of October and entry is free, so do have a look!
