This year I was lucky enough see Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty at Sadler’s Wells for my birthday treat (23, eek!). It was an amazing production; truly stunning. The costumes, set and story telling were all wonderful. Mathew Bourne’s retelling takes a few liberties with the original plot, creating a real love story that spans the decades, not just a princess waking up to find some dude kissing her. I loved that it was set in the Victorian era and that she awoke in the modern day. The Victorian costumes in particular were beautiful. The only disappointment was the the music was recorded, not live. Photos from various online sources, obviously not taken by me.
