A Tea and Cake Party

My book Tea and Cake came out last year, and it made its way onto bookshop shelves and under the Christmas trees of various friends and family, but it never had an official launch of any sort.  I decided the Jubilee was the perfect time to have a little party to celebrate this rather lovely book (if I do say so myself).

Last Friday Watermark Books, in Kings cross station, played host to a tea party. As you can see from the pictures everything came together perfectly and it was a really wonderful day.  My whole family, parents, grandparents and brothers, came to celebrate with me, as well plenty of friends.  As well as that a lot of tourists and commuters popped into the shop for the tea and cake, and left very happy with a book and a goodie bag in hand.  I really enjoyed meeting all the fellow tea and cake lovers, and my mum enjoyed doing the proud mother thing with the American tourists.

It was my first time as an event organizer, and I really enjoyed the experience, but by no means did I do this all by myselves. Louisa from The Golden Afternoon Tea Co. was an enormous help on the day and we couldn’t have done it without her. As well as baking a beautiful multi-layered rose and raspberry cake and lavender shortbread, she provided all the tea pots, cake plates and other pretty crockery, and the big hot water urn which we used to make all the tea. The Rose and Raspberry cake was a huge hit; my very lady like mother managed to devour an enormous slice in about 30 seconds flat, and another guest described it as ‘like eating a Japanese watercolour of a pink peony’.Louisa from The Golden Afternoon Tea Co.

Yummy in Your Tummy Cakes, based just around the corner from us, also baked us a cake. And what a cake it was. When it was dropped off at our flat on the morning of the party  I was actually speechless. It was no mean feat to transport this three layered glorious strawberry filled Italian buttercream covered creation on the tube, but I managed it, and it tasted as amazing as it looked.
