Birthday Balloons

I painted this for a friend's daughter, Olivia, who's third birthday is this Sunday. Despite the fact that I hate working on canvas I really enjoyed painting this piece because I love painting things with people in mind.

This picture will give you an idea of the size of the canvas.

  1. [this is good] That’s really sweet! What a lucky birthday girl she’ll be to to receive that!
Not being an artist myself, I am curious…what is it about working on canvas that you don’t like?

  2. Thanks!
I just don’t really like the texture. It means it takes a lot longer to get the paint on to it compared to paper, and a lot more paint is used. Also canvas isn’t absorbent like paper, so I can’t build up watery layers of colour. And it doesn’t really lend itself to college. I’m just a paper person. 🙂

  3. Thanks! Since she’s at that age were she’s constantly learning new words so I though it would be fun for her to spot all the different balloons and colours.
And I’ve very glad someone understands my dislike of canvas!

  4. [this is good] It’s brilliant.  I would totally get something like that for my daughter.  In fact, I love the “moon” one you have on flickr, too.  Great work!
